OLD NEWS:
Break-in
Late on the night of Friday 4th February
thieves forced their way into the club through what was thought to be a
secured window of the Pavilion and broke into the club’s bar and store, as
well as some of the out buildings. They stole cash and bottles of spirits
(as well as cream eggs and maltesers!), only worth in total about £100, but
the damage they caused was many times greater. Besides the damaged window
and bars, there were damaged doors and locks; the till, the telephone, a
drinks machine, gaming machine and the club’s pool table were totally
wrecked, along with the club’s flat screen TV that had recently been donated
to the club. Not content with this, the vandalism extended to leaving on the
beer taps to empty out over the floor.
The damage was discovered early on Saturday morning by
one of the tennis members; the police were called and scene of crime
officers obtained what evidence they could. Members spent the rest of the
day clearing up the mess and making the club secure again. Steve Drummond,
Chairman of the club, said ‘This sort of thing is devastating for a club
such as ours which is run for the benefit of the local community by
volunteers on limited funds. Yes, we’ll recover, but it’s another set back;
it’s so difficult to keep the facilities maintained and to improve them and
now the club no longer has it’s TV and pool table. It’s very disheartening
and I don’t know when or even if we’ll be able to afford replacements.’
60's Night at the Club
Despite having to clear up the mess from the break-in (thanks especially to
Dave Cartwright for his sterling efforts at repairing so much of the damage)
Pat and Sara managed to get the club ready for it's 60's night at which the
group 'The JKPs' performed. Some 46 people, many in 60's 'drag', came to the
event and danced the night away.

Ski Holiday
Seven members of the club went to Val D'Isere at the end of January for a
week of skiing all organised by Sara - all had a great time and returned in
one piece thankfully, especially as some were playing in tennis matches the
week after.
